If you will use modems, you just need an activated SIM for each of the
modems and configure kannel accordingly.

Hi,
You contact Rogers Wireless and they give you an account (login, password)
port & IP. That's all you need to connect. A bit tweaking might be needed
afterwards. Please read User's Guide.

Thanks Nikos.
Sorry for being a complete n00b, but how do I determine the SMSC
parameters for the carrier I'd like to use? Is this information
published somewhere? As I said, I'd like to use Rogers Wireless
Thanks again,

Hi,
Well, I am not exactly Rene, but since he seems to be offline, here you go:
You define a group "smsc" in your kannel.conf wherein you describe all
connection and routing parameters. Check the "reroute-smsc-id" option.
Kannel works only with GSM networks, though, not CDMA. For details read
Sure, this is very well possible with Kannel.
Your Asterisk server won't help you very much, but Kannel is the only thing
you need for this.
Which country should the local DID be in? There's two options: Purchase a
DID via an sms aggregrator. Or hook up a cellphone or cellular modem with a
local SI
Hi Rene,
Thanks for your help.
How do I go about getting a DID associated with Kannel?
When Kannel performs the forward, do I need to know anything other
than the DID I forward the message forwarded to?
Thanks,
Mike

I suppose a better question would be... how does Kannel connect to an
SMSC? For example, my SMSC would be Rogers Wireless in Canada... but
does Kannel know that?

I know this is old but I want to post this so others may benefit.
I followed Nikos's suggestion and found used
modem.conf:
keepalive-cmd = "AT+CMGD=1,2"
kannel.conf:
keepalive = 60
this seems to keep things running perfectly, and deletes any messages that
have been read each time the keepalive
Hi,
I'm wondering if I could somehow use Kannel for SMS forwarding.
For my company, all of our cell phones have an SMS plan that allows
them to receive SMS messages internationally for free, but only send
SMS messages locally. However, there are two international numbers
that we want the ability
Could you also post your smsbox.log?

Hi Hermeet,
Try defining 'max-messages = 5' into sendsms-user group. Also I can see
spelling mistake in the enabled parameter (you have max-message instead of
max-messages). Try correcting it, and then call this user from application.

Hamza
