Sorry for the mess, this is my up-to-date, and hopefully more-clarified
situation.
The samsung I am now using for sending SMS with Kannel (instead of the
Nokia Lumia) seems under /dev/ttyACM0, not ttyACM1. I changed the .conf
file again to reflect this.
So the log error from bearerbox is just a plain "AT2[/dev/ttyACM0]:
Wrong or no answer to ATZ".
I am still having the same issue also with vwdialconf, which responds OK
to everything until it gets to:
ttyACM0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 +FCLASS=0 -- ERROR
ttyACM0<*1>: Modem Identifier: ATI -- +CME ERROR: 513
I don't know if the two errors (kannel's and vwdialconf's) are related...
By the way, I just found an old post

where the user was able to use a Samsung Galaxy S2 for sending SMS (this
gives me hope). He was having similar problems as I do, and he solved by
adding "init-string = "ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0"" to his .conf
file.
I tried it, but then I receive an error which is similar to the one from
wvdialconf:
ERROR: AT2[/dev/ttyACM0]: +CME ERROR: +CME ERROR: 513
ERROR: AT2[/dev/ttyACM0]: +CME ERROR: Lower layer falure (SMS) (513)
So, I am kind of stucked right now, I think it might be a problem
related to my phone not being recognized properly, but I have no idea
how to fix this.

received ERROR: AT2[/dev/ttyACM1]: Initialization of device failed.
Attempt #1 on -1 max.
Does anybody have other ideas? I am digging in something new for me,
but I am confident I can make it working!

Hello,
perhaps, the first step is not to start kannel, but only try to
make a connect to your tty then, try to make 'ATZ', and then see
the answer from the modem.
If there is no answer, it looks to be an speed connection modem
setup issue, then try another speed, and so on.

I finally managed to recognize which tty my phone is assigned (tty9).
But now I ma having permission issues. I read from the user guide
"In Ubuntu linux you just need to assign kannel user to group
"dial"", but I don't know what that means...
So I tried the discouraged way just for testing: the
initialization with sudo.
I am still having issues. I am receiving:
"ERROR: AT2[/dev/tty9]: Wrong or no answer to ATZ"
"INFO: AT2[/dev/tty9]: Closing device"
"ERROR: AT2[/dev/tty9]: Couldn't connect"
Is it something related to the speed (at the moment it is set to
9600)?

I followed the tutorial, and I am using the 'smskannel.conf'
combined with the 'modems.conf' to get it work, but I need

I am encountering difficulties, since I don't know what is
the actual value of the variable 'device' in my
configuration. So, when I start the bearerbox, it panics as
