a) module signing is just a feature you can use if you want
b) it's not really a lock. It's only a lock if you decide to enforce
module signature checking and not add any keys of your own

In the mixer configuration panel, I have set the Mic Int level to the
maximum possible. This works fine during the same session, but, when I
reboot the laptop, I get the “Mic Int” set to the minimum level. Is
this a bug or simply a feature? I am using F16 x64 and XFCE.

If it doesn't work, run alsamixer, hit f6, select the underlying sound card,
and make sure the alsa settings are correct.
Both of these tools have fixed 99% of my sound problems...

I just noticed friday when I unplugged to go into suspend for the
sabbath, that the system was reporting only 1 hour on my battery, and
then only 30 min so I plugged back in and suspended without
turnning off the powerstrip (so that the battery was on charge). T
