dear sir, i am sorry to hear of your frustrations. as a many decade fedora user, may i share a process that has never failed me. naturally, YMMV, but consider,... first, the obligatory backup of you old env & /home/user. boot from a .{iso|dvd|network}, your choice wiping all pre-existing data!.
