IMO, the top bar should be able to show more than the single foreground
activity. E.g., it only shows Thunderbird although I also have Firefox
open. If there is a way to configure this, please advise.

I was fine with FC14-32, but the only way I've managed to start JACK is
by having Ardour do it rather than jackd:

going to their website helped. At
least in the case of something online: once a media file is coming in,
the little icon on the upper task bar goes colour and starts to spin;
then hit the litte arrow to its right... The file will be saved in full
to the dwhelper directory. Hopefully this will work - considering you
can at least display the videos.
