After some unsuccessful attempts to put a Home icon on a Gnome panel, I
came up with the following funky solution: put an application launcher
to nautilus on the panel and change the icon appearance from the
nautilus shell to home-like. Copying the Home icon from the desktop
were unsuccessful.

When an 8.5 x 14 in document is put into my scanner, xsane scans only
the top 8.4 x 14 in portion of it. How can I change this behavior?
(It's not easy.)

hour for it. Is this normal. I don't remember submitting crash reports
taking so long. The bulk of the time was spent in "Generating
backtrace", though "Initializing virtual root" also took a fair while.

A version conflict is making it impossible to upgrade my system to the
latest kernel and/or native nvidia drivers. Usually these conflicts

The default (and only) CD/DVD device on my system is named cdrom1 rather
than cdrom or cdrom0. Why is this? Is there any convenient way to

I need to get the IP numbers of local hosts, i.e. hosts inside my
gateway's firewall. The domain name server in the gateway provides the
IP addresses of hosts and sites on the internet, but does not provide
the IP addresses for hosts on my local net. The gateway is aware of
their names and addres

After waking my system up from sleep mode, telnet on the local host

I would like my system to mount a USB hard drive at boot time, provided
it is connected to the system. The drive is used for backup, and is
usually, but not always attached. Fedora-21/KDE had an option to mount
the drive when KDE starts, which is almost as good, but this doesn't

Right clicking on an item in the Dolphin File browser gives an option
to delete it but not to move it to the trash. There doesn't seem to be
any way to move a file in Dolphin to the trash, only to delete it.

allows it to be restored to the (active) filesystem. While it is found
in a search, the file cannot be restored.
