Try imaps instead.

Thanks a lot! That comment led me to investigate on the right track. I
wasn't using ssl in my offlineimaprc config. Turning it on, made
everything work perfectly.

works for me, I cannot investigate the issue.
What kind of server is it? There was such an issue on the offlineimap
mailing list lately.
