We use Torque and Moab as our resource manager,
I have a user who has to mix programming models, threads and MPI, but not on
all ranks,
Example:
Rank 0 needs 4 cores
Rank 1 needs 4 cores
Ranks 2-5 need 1
There is no way to give this to Torque/Moab in a way that when using TM openMPI
correctly
Where did you see that 1.5 works with xgrid? That support has been broken since
the 1.2 series, unfortunately, so it would help to ensure we don't have stale
docs out there to the contrary.
As for the 1.2 results, you are aware (I imagine) that OSX ships with the last
1.2 release already
I'm new to openMPI. I'm trying to set it up for using xgrid. I have read
that v1.3 and v1.4 are broken on OSX 10.5 and 10.6 although I have seen
some discussions in the archives of this mail list saying some people have
v1.4 running on 10.6.
I have now compiled both openMPI 1.2 and openMPI1.5rc

Ok, so since hwloc_set_thread_cpubind returns 0, the issue can only be
in glibc's pthread_setaffinity_np() (and I guess your are calling it on
a thread
There is no shed affinity call at all if the thread is on a barrier :/

Beyond what's documented at the FAQ (Questions 20 and 21)

is there anything else worth tweaking for building on a
SPARC-Enterprise-T5120 with the June 2010 Express compiler
suite ?
Perhaps, instead of
