As for the Bria issue if you manually enter the credentials it works but it
doesn't use the correct RFC path for the lists.

You can use both. Depends on what is your scenario. I mean if you have
the OpenSIPS Control Panel on the same server with OpenSIPS you can
choose : fifo/xmlrpc , if not there is only one option for you: xmlrpc.

I declared it in global parameter section of opensips.cfg as $var(count)=0;
It did not work.
