Velocity is indicated in the plugin site
in the faq IIRC.

Then in §2 Create the archetype descriptor
the java files in archetype-resources are velocity templates.
In §4 Create the prototype files and the prototype pom.xml
you can see use defined properties passed to the velocity context
before generating from template files.
