I would think you also wd want to look at Open Streetmaps for the map
imagery- unless you're planning to stay with Google for that. See

Have you considered using the Douglas Peucker point reduction algorithm
as a way of, well, reducing the number of points? See

U, not to be too unkind, but OP suggested "I now have a hammer,

My personal view is to start with a need - either real or perceived.
E.g., I started with a perception of a need for free open-source

Hello all.

I have a set of OSM tiles under my 'tiles'directory - named correctly, I

Lars, for an Open Source project of mine (PHP/MySQL) I'm planning a move
from GMaps base to OSM/OL, and yr wms service sounds most interesting!
What can you share regarding yr license plans as well as code?

Folks, I'm interested in any recommendations re subject matter.
I'm not interested in a GeoServer manual, or in any of the other
server-specific ones, cuz that's not in the plan. That plan includes a
simple-minded tile serving application in PHP, a fork from a GMaps
application.
Thanks for
Found the answer; my premise was wrong. Sorry.

Another noob's question:
Within a given layer, is there some standard way to hide/show individual
features/icons? (I assume that these aren't available to the DOM, so
document.getElementById() functions can't be used. Confirmed?

That IS nice news.
When DoD announced their new 'Open Source' initiative, the described it
as using Flash and MS SqlServer. Sheeesh! (But who knows? Mebbe
through some still-secret initiative DoD got the owners to open them as OS?)

I'm with Brad Redfearn in what I plan to do, although not for commercial
reasons but rather to provide a server environment for public safety
operations that's able to operate without Internet access - when 'the
balloon has gone up'. The combination of OL and OpenStreetMap looks
exactly right
Here's one I use with GMaps - xlation of the last line needed:
function drawCircle(lng,lat,radius) { // e.g.,
drawCircle(-87.628092,41.881906,2);
var cColor = "#3366ff";
var cWidth = 2;
var Cradius = radius;

Absent an available and illustrative PHP script, maybe some
definition/specification of the OL-to-server interface would provide the
basis for one of us to write it. Has to exist somewhere, but where?
Maybe better posed to the dev list?

Folks, hello, and I wonder if anyone can share experiences doing such a
transition.
Background: I've written a free, Open Source application targeted to
the public safety community, notably ham radio groups who kick into gear
during emergency/crisis conditions.
But under these conditions, int

hugely complex - to say the least - but mebbe useful, although you'll
need some PHP chops to adapt it to yr own use.

Can anyone here speak to experience in using OL with maps exported from
subject system?
Right now I have no information at all re their technical parameters, so
ANY information wd be appreciated.
