I've added an entry to the FAQ[1] to point users to the Datasets[2]
wiki page on the OpenLayers site.
At this point it is a pretty weak offerring, but people should feel
free to add other freely available WMS
servers there... I think it would be a nice resource for the community.

TerraServer is a good one, for black-n-white photos.

http://onearth.jpl.nasa.gov/ has global coverage (minus the poles) and is
decent for regional views but is limited to 15 meter per pixel as its best
resolution with 30m being the best in some regions. So if you need close up
views it won't fit your needs.

True enough, I forgot all about that as I had actually made a local cache of
it for that exact reason.
