Converter appears to work only on windows (not really clear on the web
site). I need something I can use on Linux (which I should have
emphasized).
KWord (part of KOffice) can open PDF files and save in OpenDocume

Last things first: Frames can be linked so that text or tables will
overflow into the succeeding linked frame(s) as needed. You can create
frames that occupy the entire text area on a page or put them side by
side to behave like a multi-col
