1) changing the OOo Temp directory doesn't help
2) the problem only seems to happen with saved files -- a new file that
hasn't been saved doesn't seem to suffer from it (although perhaps I
just haven't encountered that yet).

Doesn't happen with any other program, and I've plenty of drive space.
I've tested memory and scanned for viruses.
Seems strange it started just when I upgraded and yet not a problem
anyone else seems to have come across.
