When "pasting special" in Calc, my default is "paste all" with all options
selected except "numbers". I can change it, but when all current instances
of OO are closed and restarted, it goes back to "paste all".
Can this default be changed?

The problem was caused by the program "FileBox eXtender". A very good prog,
it worked well with 2.4, but not 3.0.
