Hi,

I've got a customer who is a Microsoft fanatic and was going to buy Office
Live so she could edit documents and upload them to the cloud, etc.

However when she heard about OpenOffice being free as opposed to the £150
price tag of Office (and the fact she could use Thunderbird with Gmail
through IMAP so she could access her e-mails from wherever she is on her
laptop, or even login through the net on another computer and access
e-mails, and also sync her contacts and calendar with Gmail) she is really
interested.

Now her idea is that she wants to upload all her documents onto Google
(she's prepared to pay Google for the 20Gb storage) and then be able to edit
them in OpenOffice, and then when they're edited put them back up to Google,
sounds like a pretty sensible way to go about things.

The only problem is, how do I get Google Docs and OpenOffice to work
together? Is it possible? I did find an extension called
OpenOffice.org2GoogleDocs but I tried installing that on my computer to see
how it worked, and as it was installing I got a message from Windows
"Uno.exe has stopped responding", and Windows went and shut the installer
down and I got some warning message from OpenOffice with details of a load
of script in it. I am running Windows Vista 64-bit on my machine with
OpenOffice 3.3.0 (OOO330m20 (build:9567)) and OOO2GD is version 3.0.0

The message I get from Extension manager is

(com.sun.star.long.DisposedException){{{ Message =
"URP_Bridge:disposed\X000a(tid=6956) Unexpected connection closure", Context
= (com.sun.star.uno.XInterface) @0 }}}

There are a few other ways I'm thinking she could have Google docs
intergrated with OOo - 1. Download the file she wants to edit, edit it in
OpenOffice, then upload it back to Google after editing - bit of a pain but
it would certainly work, or 2. See if Goodle Docs has any type of FTP access
to the docs, and set up an FTP location on her computer and have her edit
the docs from there, probably the best solution if full intergration isn't
possible.

Thank you everyone in advance for any help & advice you can bring to the
problem.

Darren.
