Forwarding your mail to users@openoffice.org where lots of experts hang out, since I haven't actually gotten OOo210 installed on Windows. nor Linxu either. :( For some reason, it doesn't want to install on my Debian Sid installation. It's probably a personal problem and I'll work it out after the holidays.
In the meantime, some ideas, inline, below: 1. My experience, for what it's worth, is that remove completely and reinstall sometimes resolves this sort of thing. It shouldn't happen but sometimes it does, especially if there were hidden issues with your old install. Also a good idea to subscribe to the "users" list: http://support.openoffice.org/index.html and check here: http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Dictionaries (it is down for me right now, but should be up quickly.) > I removed OO 2.0 and installed OO 2.1 yesterday. Then, response in small window > was "The spellcheck is complete" --- Didn't find misspelled words. Remember: All characters have Language property. Highlight some text. Right-click > Character > Font > Language Choose a language that has a check mark, which means that there is a dictionary installed in dictionary.lst. If no dict is installed, it won't check. On the off-chance that your en_US dict got wiped, check here: http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Dictionaries (it is down for me right now, but should be up quickly.) > I did as suggested by forum > > Tools>Options>Languages Settings > Languages A number of languages checked > with abc (including Latvian and English-UK), but not English-USA THEN Unusual, to say the least. The English US seems to come with OOo before all else. But maybe something happened in your install? > File>Wizards>Install new dictionaries.
