I am using Open Office Writer version 2.3 on a notebook PC running Windows Vista Home Premium edition. I am using a Hewlett Packard printer. Though I have verified that the printer software is installed correctly, and that I have the necessary drivers, when I try to print a document from Writer, I cannot configure it to print on standard 8.5/11 paper--only limited options appear, and "print preview" is greyed out under the file menu. I don't have a problem printing from other programs, such as Windows Notepad. Please assist. Thank you.

I too have had document print trouble of perhaps a similar nature(Vista?)...
(Open Office Writer version 2.3.1 on a PC running Windows Vista Home Basic with a Hewlett Packard LaserJet 6P printer.)

While attempting to print a single envelope, following the example seen here:
http://www.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?listName=discuss&msgNo=61025

I receive a pop up error "Could not start printer. Please check your printer configuration."
Did as requested. Found nothing to change in printer configurations.
After subsequent attempts the printer refused to print any documents from various applications(i.e. Open Office, Wordpad, Notepad, Firefox, etc) This was remedied by uninstalling the printers driver software shutdown system, then physically detaching the printer from the LPT1 port, restarting system, then another shutdown to re-attach the printer to the LPT1 port, restarting system, allowing Vista to 'find new hardware'(I just love Winders methodology) setting up an Hewlett Packard LaserJet 6P in the printers folder.

To no avail.... envelopes do not print! FWIW, I can now print other type documents from various applications(i.e. Open Office, Wordpad, Notepad, Firefox, etc)

Perhaps one point of interest...
if you can view the screen shot attachment(OOo env print.jpg), take note of the envelope format displayed in the background. Under the Envelope > Format tab I'd selected "Env. 10" In the Printer Envelope orientation tab I selected the 4th option(left vertical feed) & Print from top.

What additional information may I provide to possibly correct this envelope printing issue?
