About my "relative addresses" :
I sure did not say it clearly : actually my problem is the following : in my spreadsheet, each line stands for a tune, and in column J of each line, I want to insert the URL of a sound file, so the user can hear the tune. If I want to give my documentation to someone other, I have to give relative paths to the URL. According to what someone else wrote, the software turns absolute paths into relative paths when saving the file, but that is not what I experienced.

No I will take the time to try to help. I have some question though: 1. Are you sending the sound files with the document? 2. If (!) is no, then the only solution I see is that these files be made publicly available e.g. http://yyourwebpage/sounds/...

If they are being sent, then we have to figure out how to make them
visible to the end user. Am I with you so far?

I am not a Calc person but I did take the time to learn a bit whilst
preparing the user guide. Most of what I know is 1.1.x based but I have
noticed that the 2.0 beta candidates offer an insert movies and sounds
that may perform better than 1.1.x.

I created a little test calc doc so I could see some of what you are
seeing. What I did was embed a .wav and a .mid into a calc sheet and
saved the document (attached) and tested it under another OS on another
machine. Low and behold the sound objects would not work with either 1.9
or 1.1.4. See if the test file works at your end though.

So we are back to trying real URLs. I will not bet that using URLs to
whatever sound files you have will work either. Maybe what is needed is
that you enter an issue into Issue Tracker as this is the best way to
have problems such as this evaluated. I have taken the liberty of cc'ing
users as well in hope that someone

If you haven't already registered, do the following:

1. To file an issue you must register with OOo by clicking the
Register link at the top right of www.openoffice.org, 2. Fill in your information
3. Reply to the confirmation email that will be sent to the address
you provided. 4. Once you have confirmed, go to www.openoffice.org again
5. And click on the "Bugs & Issues" link in the General links box.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. It is important that you file
any examples with the issue to ensure your need is understood.

Answer : First of all, I thank you for having spent time to give me advice.
If I give my information to other people, of course il will give together the Calc file and the associated .mid files. Normally these .mid files should be in a parallel folder, so the relative address would be of the type "../tunes/fff.mid"
Your "foobear.sxc" file shows only a geometric image that disappears if I manipulate the scrollbars, and reappears if I replace sheet 1 by sheet 2 and back sheet 2 by sheet 1. There is nothing that I can do with that image, and I could not determine on which cell it was supposed to be inserted (it covers many cells)

I registered as you said, but now it will be time for me to stop for this evening. I hope I will find this "Bugs and Issues" link.
Thanks again.
