Found it...
The faulty directories were in the "hierarchy.xcu" file - one additional
problem was that Notepad did not display the file format very well
making editing hard to impossible, so I had to go get another text
editor. But it's working now.

OK, funny, it seems to be pointed to the accurate current template
directory...

You might try just renaming them -- some or all of such files are simply
recreated with current defaults if they don't exist.
