don't know about fax softwares bundled with suse, but in ubuntu we can
have kfax efax etc installed
All use of faxes from OOo depends on having appropriate faxing software
installed as you had in the past.

In SUSE SE there is a config for FAX. The problem you have here is
that this is Open Office not SUSE.
SUSE is an easy distro to configure, and provides few anomalies. The
challenge is small for configuration.
Look under system. You will need the SU password.
