Is Open Office completely compatible with the Microsoft Office offerings
such as Word, PowerPoint and more importantly Excel (including
calculations/macros/ect.)?

OOo can read and write most MS formatted files. There are small
compatibility issues but these are getting less and less with each
release of OOo.
Excel macro's are not supported (mainly due to there security issues).
OOo has its own macro language. Excel formulas etc are supported.

Yes.
I also would have to transfer files
OOo will read/write MSO files.
For text documents, _some_ formatting may be lost in the conversion process.
For spreadsheets, all macros will be lost. Some functions may not be converted.
