I had tried that some time ago (v1.1.0 I think) and OOo
insisted on loading the file into writer. I guess it's been
fixed.

Hi Charles,
If it isn't already, change the extension of your text file
to 'csv'. Use 'file / open' and select 'text document' as
the file type. When you select the file, you should get a
text import dialogue similar to the one you're used to
seeing in excel.
