Does OpenOffice actually start? i.e., is there the OOo icon running in the
Dock?

Yes, I have downloaded and installed it. Removed it and installed it again.

It would help if you gave us just a few hints. Which Operating System and
version? What happens when you try to open it? Have you
that shows it is
working, then it goes away without an error message.
