The best way is to tell whatever calls SA that mail from that IP address
shouldn't be given
All I know is I first run mail through procmail to filter out the big
items before they get to spamassassin.
Never enabled Bayes and don't intend to.
Hmm, I seem to have described it in http://jidanni.org/comp/spam/spamdealer.html

That's not what trusted_networks does. It skips the Received header from
those IPs for things like DNS blacklist lookup
hi

trusted network
i am entering a line like this in local.cf file.
trusted_networks xxx.yyy.zzz.ppp
if i do this then the email from this server ip should be given a negative
score but it does not seem to work
spamassass
Hmmm, let's try to "make clean" that last e-mail. That got sent out a
little too early.

Because if version 3.2 of SpamAssassin isn't updating rules, then knowing where
the rules are isn't as of great an immediate interest to me. I may be asking
dumb questions, but I do know that I want the rules to be up to date.

Does 99.9% sound good, Warren? A well trained BAYES and a good selection
of rules helps a lot.

Of course it is critical. How effective would your virus scanner be
after several years without updates?

Everything. You don't know where the stuff you're currently using is.
Backups are good.

Yup, upgrading to 3.3.1 would be good. "Rule updates for 3.2.x effectively
stopped late 2008."
Start by making sure you have good backups.

I apologize in advance if I seem a bit dim for this list - however it seemed
the best place to get answers on how to maintain the out of date
SpamAssassin install I have.
We are currently running SpamAssassin 3.2.4 on Mac OS 10.4.11 with a third
party helper program that has been out of support
