Is the unique.log where your site hits are being logged?
I'm running tc5.0.x. For that version you would change the pattern
attribute for the Valve doing the logging in server.xml (or context.xml
depending on config).
Just looked. It's the same in 5.5
and possibly refer to log4j Tomcat 5.5
