*Position -- Data Architect*

*Location: Chicago, IL*

*Duration: 6+ months*

*Local: Highly preferred*

*USC / GC / GC EAD / H4 EAD *

*Skills Needed: Data Architect in Oracle environments with strong Oracle,
SQL, data flow from Cognos, Schema, etc.*

*JD below:*

Senior Data Architect:

* Must be able to navigate in Oracle, beyond basic SQL skills - analytic
functions (lead, lag, dense rank, and other windowing functions) and
hierarchical queries.

* Must be able to read and understand Oracle Query Plans and implement the
correct choices for performance

* Must know most of the views (V$*, X$*) of the Oracle data dictionary, to
get information on the fly about relationships, and mutual-dependencies
among database objects

* Must speak the dialect of Oracle DBAs with ease, and take on Oracle DBA
role if ever needed.

* Must be able to visualize data as a table, a tree(balanced, ragged) or a
graph and perform operations with ease to pivot the shape of data when
needed

* Must understand multiple hierarchies in trees and how to maintain them
via ETL or other, with minimal intrusion

* Must know when to use a snowflake versus a star and not quote some
esoteric line from latest Ralph Kimballs blog.

* Must understand layered reusable structures in the database

* Must be able to analyze data and their relationships in a foreign EIS
system, understand the grain of data and which attributes they hang of, and
then correctly define the grain in the target data mart

* Be able to effortlessly design data-level security that may (or may not)
reflect the integrating source systems.

* Understand how to design extensible Multi-dimension security which could
use any combination of union or intersection, if needed

* Must be able to visualize a target data mart once presented with data
from source systems.

Know what the dimensions would be, what their attributes would be; what
hierarchies would they have? Would they ragged?

* Envision future directions of the mart - be able to foresee what types of
future trending and analytics might come in future phases and thereby
design correct locations for fast-changing versus slow-changing attributes

* Historical trending, time-series, restating history SCD types, NRT and
trickle feed integration are highly desirable.

* Must be able to have a cogent conversation with data analysts, ETL, data
architects and modelers if not do their job, if needed

* Must be able to design for data ingestion and outflow through a wide
variety of channels -- Flat files, XML, JSON via file ETLs; Trickle
consumption via Services, Oracle View remote links, Messaging if needed

* Must have an understanding of how to design real-time and near real-time
trickle feeds

* Must be able to write complex queries in SQL

* Must know which indexes to design (B-tree, Bitmap, Clustered join,
functional, etc.) and composite partitioning choices on Very Large Tables
based on the nature of data

* Must know all trade-offs in performance tuning between loads and reads.

* Must be able to tune SQL, apply hints, enforce other query plans by
changing session or memory parameters in Oracle

* Must be able to write code in PL/SQL (or Transact SQL if coming from MS
SQL Server background) for functions, stored procedures, packages and
triggers. Must be knowledgeable on cursor types and processing.

* Must know how use and invoke stored procedures from custom languages
(Java, .NET) as well as Cognos BI Framework Manager and Cognos TM1 TI.

* Must know when to use a materialized view versus a summary table and the
concept of query rewrites

* Must have client and stakeholder interaction abilities and working with
Cross functional teams.

* Desired experience with latest Business Intelligence and analytical
technologies (Ex: Analytics, Big Data, Statistics, Algorithms, and Cloud
computing etc...)
