For me this is already implemented in varnishstat.
# varnishstat -1 |grep thr
n_wrk 45 . N worker threads
No? For me it's 45 working threads.

This number shows how many threads are created, but not how many of them
are actually busy.
This number might work for who open new threads on demand, but i'm
opening all during startup.
