A little correction here...
It just won't work, you must have a working 32-bit development
environment on 64-bit hosts if you wish to build VirtualBox. There are
some 32-bit portions of the VMM that requires this, and it won't build,
much less run, without these.

Sounds like if you're trying to install it on a AMD64 system (64-bit
linux). Presently, VirtualBox runs on Windows and Linux 32-bit hosts
only. Support for 64-bit is actively being worked on.
