figured it out. there was a carriage return between
qmail-pop3d and Maildir in my run file. i fixed it now
its working fine.

At last third time seemed to be lucky for me. i was
able to install qmail. this time i followed the steps
described in this page

and i literally did a cut and paste of all commands.
My qmail-smtpd is working fine, vpopmail, qm
