Ok that worked... almost.
I did get it working however, I did what you suggested plus
added the line:
DELIVERY = "| /home/vpopmail/bin/vdelivermail '' bounce-no-mailbox"
to my /home/vpopmail/domains/plunge.net/.tmdarc
