I think the gdm 2.28 upgrade in build 130 brings us closer to having
fast user switching in the default configuration - the GNOME team would
know more of the details around that.

Good question - I wonder if it should be on by default before 2010.03.

A fix for the first has been putback to ON, I don't know when fixes for the
others will be done.

I am getting ready to publish test binaries of Xorg 1.5 for our
upcoming switch to it - can I get the source changes you made in
your Xorg test binary so I can include those changes in our test
binaries as well?

xdm
& gdm sources passes the X display as the PAM_TTY value, so we'd
either need to change them or add :0 to /etc/securetty. From
looking at the dtlogin code, it appears to pass /dev/console as
PAM_TTY.)

hat's your opinion?
It will be very difficult to find keys outside of the Alt + F* set that
are available on everyone's keyboard (Alt+Front is probably available,
but not on non-Sun keyboards) and don't conflict with someone's application.

Moving it into PAM would reduce one of the reasons other
code calls libcmd to read /etc/default/login (it's not just
login - it's also xdm, gdm, & dtlogin), which is also a good
thing.

For starters, it buys you the ability to use X server configuration tools
such as kdmconfig or Xorg -configure that won't run properly in a
RC graphics drivers are a whole other question you'll have

There might be an option in the GUI, but it should just activate a
virtual console switch with instructions on how to return.

that is to rely on virtual console to switch to a console with a
text login prompt.
