Dear Admins,
I have just started with netbackup administration, the TEST backup fired for a windows 2003 server exits with error 13.
As its network read error, we checked the network settings and found to be 1000 Gbps auto.
The Event logs show the following error

Hello Ian,
The story that I received was that there are several things going on. I believe
that it is covered in a technote.
But in summary, if you do not have an Administrator email address set to
anything, the email will go to the root userid on the master.
And due to a bug in the code

This happens in 5.0 mp6 as well. I have this same issue. Very annoying.

Good Morning Greg,
Have you changed setting in the /etc/system file to
increased things such as shared memory and msg queues?

Hi Jonathan,
We added the following to our bp.conf and it solved the issue:
#
# Jobs are requeued instead of error 219.
QUEUE_ON_ERROR
Similarly, we added this so to solve the STU issue (we have several STUs
here):
#
# active jobs that get stu unavailable will be re-queued.
WAIT_IN_QUEUE
The overwhelming response was to keep the present structure.
However, there were also concerns to keep the chatter down by:
1) encouraging sending thank you to individuals as opposed to the entire group.
2) eliminate "I don't know" replies to the group address
3) reduce the number of replies to
Regarding the thread going around concerning bpsched crashing, I believe I'm having similar issues and as such will begin thinking upgrade. I'm currently running on HP-UX, but our general direction for new apps lately has been solaris.
Anyone got an opinion as to whether I should stay on HPUX
Why?
I have a 2-3TB backup that I do not have another 2-3TB box to restore
to. If I can restore to /dev/null, then I could test a restore and
the tapes integrity.
And if it does not verify all the data on the tape, how come it takes
~2hrs for each LTO2 tape?

I have used both of your solutions before and wanted to add some info that I have found. If I am using Freq. based schedules I always set my Freq to be just larger than the backup window to try and avoid problems like this. For example on Weekly backups that are open all day Sat (24 hours) I set

If you duplicate the tapes, it will also test their integrity. If the
images are unreadable in a Dup process, the process should fail.

Justin,
Yes, I zoned my tape library on the Brocade switch and that's why the host
can see the library and its first drive. I put the library and NBU master in
a separate WWN-based zone. Is there any other special zoning method I should
be aware of?
Thanks.

If your running Solaris, you could try the 'tcopy' command.
From the man pages -
NAME
tcopy - copy a magnetic tape
SYNOPSIS
tcopy source [destination]
DESCRIPTION
The tcopy utility copies the magnetic tape mounted on the
tape drive specified by the source

All the problems I had (initially) w/ fiber zoning was my initial
setup of the brocade switch. After that you just use the cfgadm
commands and be on your way.

Yes, with frequency based scheduling, keeping the frequency as small as
possible (yet larger than your window is expected to be) will let you do
a manual retry the next day without adversely affecting the backup next
week.
However, during the past year I have become a fan of calendar based

Len,
This message means that you have some device in the path to your
tape drive that isn't happy with 16-byte CDBs (some scsi-3 commands).
This one in particular is the scsi-3 WRITE ATTRIBUTE command.

When using Veritas Netbackup 6.0 my tapes keep freezing after one backup. The tapes still have plenty of space. If I unfreeze the tapes and do a new policy and schedule the backups it will again only do one backup and freeze my tapes.
