Hi,
Do you know if it is possible to make backups on DSSU localized on a Media server and make the relocation of the images to tape by a storage unit, robotics and drives localized on the Master server ?
thnx & regards,

As mentioned below, I already write new month end tapes to the new
pool! So that is not a problem. This was an oversight on the last person here,
so its no big deal, but would be nice to "clean" things up a
bit!

Hi
Simon,
I sent a wrong tech, in that has an
example of use of the commands deassignbyid and assignbyid than can help you, if
don't work, the best way is to make a copy of the images to another tape in
other pool.

bpduplicate the images to the destination pool you want them to be in,
expire the original tapepresto.
or, as
I said, change your monthly backup policy to write to the new pool from now on,
and forget about the old tapeswithin a year, they will have all gone to
scratch

Simon,
Don't have problems, you don't need the policie
and the volume pool to import a expired tape. In the Veritas support site
(support.veritas.com) you can find technotes about expired tape
imports.

This is a Tape Pool created 1 year ago. It contains 7 tapes -
month end with a years retention.
I
wanted to get rid of the pool, but try to save the images by moving the tape
into a pool that is used for month end
backups.

Thanks everyone. I was worried that doing this would would be invalid

I have noticed that while I can limit a storage unit to only 2 drives,
I can't tell it which two. Go
Hi Roger,
You can create a new STU just containing two drives and use this STU
instead of another with four drives.

Title: Drive Cleaning, your opinion
Hi Hindle,
The bedst way to clean the tape
drives, is to configure the tape library to do this, because NetBackup will
clean the tapes by frequency and not when the drive is really needing
cleaning.

there's no sense in changing a tapes pool if it's already been
written.
change
all your policies to write to whatever pools you want to continue with.as
old tapes expire they'll go to scratch and get picked up in a new pool by the

Hi Simon,
1 - if you are sure that won't use more this policies,
you can remove them.
2 - you can remove if don't exist policies that use
those pools.
3 - you can use this technote to do the movie - http://support.veritas.com/docs/248093

Simple, create a storage unit with only two of the drives and make
sure the policy uses that storage unit.

What is the storage unit set for that it uses? Goto storage units, double
click on it and it should tell you how many drives its set to use.
Also, what multiplexing per drives is this set for.
In regards to the policy, you need to verify how the multiplexing is setup
for the schedule (ie:
I'm sure I have a setting wrong somewhere, but one of my huge backups
has decided that it wants to take over all 4 drives in our jukebox
when it does full backups.
I use streams but would really like to set it so the policy can use a
maximum of 2 drives at any one time so other policies can run as

How does everyone clean their drives? Heir are to rules of thumb (It think). One for allowing netbackup to do tape drive cleanings and the other is to allow the hardware to clean itself when it needs it. What are the pros and cons in each of these ways?

Anyone doing anything like this? I'm thinking I'll have to compress,
