some databases (SQL and SharePoint) and using agents to backup the actual dbs

The A_L_D backup

wont lose much sleep - if you have configured DHCP to backup itself (or using
the auto method) thats ok then I guess.
Is the client software using the same version and MP as the master
and the other server?
Also are both DHCP servers definetely in
use?

Simon,
I've researched the DHCP thing and by default it backs
itself up every hour, so I'm quite happy that I'm getting a backup of what I
need. However, I'm trying to figure out why one server has this issue of open
files where the other one doesn't; both are Win2k SP4.

Its a DHCP database - by default, you may find if its alive and in
use, you will get a status 1 back. You can backup the DHCP databse within the
DHCP Admin tool (if I recall) and make a backup copy of
it.
Is one server running VSS or VSP? Check in the master properties

Hello Justin
Sorry I have been unwell.
Ok, well not sure really, but are you referring to the fragmentation size on
the storage unit that you can change? If I recall, I think 1TB is the max
size you can set, but I thought this affected just restores Justin.
Unless I am missing the point here??

Is the file list in the stream correct? I am unsure why you are
touching System Volume Information, as this should be hidden and not visible to
you.
Make sure policy is set for ALLOW multiple
streams.
Finally, if you were getting error 41 before, can you TRY and use

Yes, this can happen. With 5.x, the job will fail with a status 84.
With 6.x, NBU will suspend t
Not on these servers - we only run VSP on our file
servers.

Hi,
We have NBU6 MP2
installed on 2 separate networks; both backing up DHCP servers (both Win2k)
using ALL_LOCAL_DRIVES. One of them backs up both Full and Incrementals without
any errors, the other having issues with DHCP files (reporting the file as being

Hi Mike,
See in the NetBackup for SQL
administrator guide how to make a script to do a move restore, this script
allow a redrected restore. If you use NBU 4.5FP3 or earlier you don't need to
configure ODBC connection to do backups and restore.

Hi All, Concerning SQL restores, does the database have to be down to restore a database from a backup and redirecting the files to a different directory? I'm getting ODBC -1 and SQL state<37000> messages stating the restore fails because the ODBC could not obtain exclusive access due to the data

Bootserver. It's config is now stuck in the Master's BMR Boot Servers

All,

Nope, it hasn'tthe destage to tape usually happens the morning after
the nightly backups.the backup images stay on disk for a couple
weeks, so you want a good quantity of disk.
It may be a problem if you only have enough disk to do one night's
backup, and you have insufficient tape drives
Nice, the only part I worry about is what if it cannot bleed off to
tape fast enough and the disk fills up? Has this happened to you?

Yes, common in many environments.
Yes, you can use multiple streams from a DSSU to tapeworks quite
well in practice.
6 is supposed to work better than 5, in that you can group DSSUs, like
regular STUs, so if one fills up, backups go to another with available
space.
When you destage to tape fro
Does anyone do this with a massive amount of data? Also, I noticed with
5.1MP4 its possible to use multiple streams to bleed from disk->tape but I
was wondering how well this worked practice.
How many people bleed off to tape using 5.1MPx?
Using 6.0?
How well does it work under 6 vs. 5? I know
Any comments on this? Simon? :)

Finding the sweet spot for the fragment size is a time consuming task as
each of our environments is different.
How much does each 'index' per each fragment take up?
Say I backup 200GB to an LTO2 tape, if I write an index every 2GB, how
much space is lost due to the file markers?
