That will give the header info... as it was written by NetBackup, but if for some reason the 2 don't match, you're in trouble (in more ways that one!)
Also, I use vmoprcmd without any switches so I can see to which server the tape/drive

To remove from volDB you need to vmdelete -m $tape

SSO licenses and shared tape drive licenses are different. You'll need Media (or SAN Media) server licenses for the servers and 4 shared tape drive licenses for the tape drives.
Then again, I too could be wrong, It's been a while since I've had to be
You're not really sharing your standard media server's drives.
They don't really belong to the standard media servers...the standard
media servers are just another server reserving shared drives.
Each media server, *AND* SAN media server will need an SSO license, and
you will need an SSO licence
The two DSSUs are that large because they will be able to hold a week's
worth of backups (compressed 2:1 ish) so I can stream them to tape
during the week when the SSO Media Servers won't be backing up. That
should give me 4 drives the entire weekend to backup my 6 largest
clients / servers

The way I understood, each Media Server that wanted to share a

Of course, this excludes the fact you ALSO need Media License

that!).
But if I am wrong, tell me :-)

We're using something like that, an ADIC PathlightVX. It's in front of a
library with only 2 LTO-3 drives (soon to be 4).
We have 14 virtual drives configured on the PVX (12 of which are going out to 6
san media servers -- two each --, so they back themselves up across FC).

You
will need 4 tape drive licenses, for the physical drives, and a license for the
VTL based on the amount of usable storage (ie, after RAIDsets, etc have been
setup). With that you can create any number of virtual tape drives on the
VTL.

Hi Greg,
Even after reading the whole thread makes me fully confused now...! I'm a little-new to netbackup.
We use CDL - to HP ESL and use the Ent Netbackup 5.1, the vaulting feature has been already setup.
So what could be different in our environs Do let me know so I can understand finer
bpexpdate deletes the copy of the images that are on the specified tape
(among other things) from the catalog. There is no need to perform
other steps if you are merely discarding the image copies from a tape.
As others have written, the expired tape becomes available or expired
and frozen.
That makes sense.
So you just license the TB of storage the device has (the one providing the
VTL; in your case the PathlightVX)?
The proposal we got for this was a Sun/StorageTEK solution that involved a

Hello all,
I am caughtup in some SARBOX requirements and I am looking to see if there
is a CLI utility that will look at a image ID and tell me what media I'd
the image is on.
Basically the SARBOX tester is looking to see if we backup a client and

you can run that will re-read bp.conf and as long as certain changes have not
been made, will dynamically update your running NetBackup configuration to match
the new file. Can anyone tell me what this is?
