Greg, Simon,
I couldnt agree more. Nothing
worse than a master server crash but at least when I experienced it I had a
catalog backup from that day to save my career.

Hi there
how do you do with clients with database who sends transactionlogs like
informix and Oracels archivelogs.
You have no control of them.

Sorry I don't quite understand ... I am referring to the NetBackup Catalog

In summary, in order to ensure you as the Backup Infrastructre support or

Do you know if it possible to compress all images in the Catalog Except
the images of a server ?
I use Netbackup 5.1.

That sound like A LOT of work for what seems to be a simple process??
Does a copy and paste work Jonathan ?
I suggest it because it would probably be the only supported way of
doing it. There are several things that _should_ work,
Does any one have NBU vs Legato comparison docs? I have worked with NBU
in the past but not with Legato. At my new pos. we need to upgrade the
NBU env. I just want good reasons why we should not go with Legato but
upgrade the current version of NBU.
This is on a Solaris env.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks to all who helped, the issue has
been resolved. It turned out that the NDMP drives configuration was wiped out
from the media server. Deleting and reconfiguring NDMP drives solved the
problem.
Thanks,
Rudy

Does the event logs show a SAVEDUMP EVENT

later, Restarted.
If YES, then I would confirm that the Server

Weve seen the activity monitor
failure when one of the fibre cards in our HP-UX master server has gone away.
On HP we can reset the fibre card with the server still on line using fcmsutil.
Not sure if its possible in Linux or how to do it if so.

Yeah, you should install ICS before installing NB 6.0x and do not use FQDN
hostnames, use the short hostname only. Otherwise, you will have a whole
sleuth of errors, like you are seeing.

Also, when I say just the hostname, I mean during the ICS installation.

If the netbackup catalog backup is in progress, the informix, Oracle,
etc, jobs will queue up untill the catalog backup is complete...once the
catalog backup is complete, the db jobs will start.

Is this when the Master and Media are separate
as I should have mentioned we have a single master/ media server, the fibre
cards are alright I believe as the IBM tool is not reporting any errors on
either of the HBAs.
Correction the following error has a typo:
Library Initialization
Anyway to change the hostname after the install, we have had this thing
up for 3 months now and this is the first time it has done this. The
only thing that has changed is the IP address but that was done about 3
weeks ago and we never had a problem until Tuesday of the current week.
Dustin
In the cases I was speaking of it was when
the Java GUI on my desktop was pointed to the activity monitor of the master.
We do have media servers as well but they werent the issue.
Ive not seen the robot
communication failure youre seeing. Were using an HP OEMed STK
and its connections
Ah, ok, there is another thing too.. If you run cold backups it can also
cause weird problems like that. The netbackup engineer from symantec told
me its only 70% fixed in MP3, if you run cold backups it can cause severe
problems.

Hm, ouch. Like I said though, the naming scheme that was chosen during

was the cold catalog backups.

There is one sentence that confuses me about Ms. Fisher's
recent CW article:
One major issue Veritas users cited with NetBackup 6.0 is
that when a backup job indicates it's complete, it often has
only backed up 1K files, so there's no data to restore.
Whoa, that DOES sound scary. Backed
