Can NetBackup and BackupExec co-exist

Netbackup services will be disabled

Hi
all,
Since
hardware support and Veritas support seem to be getting nowhere on my problem,
thought I'd hit the DL up to see if anyone's run into this problem

Mark,
Backupexec and netbackup can co-exist on the same client.
We used to have backupexec installed on our exchange servers for exchange api
backups and netbackup for system-state/file systems backups. It was no problem
before the sysmantec purchase of backupexec. After the purchase you h
What is the best method to configure NetBackup to use cleaning tapes? I
know you can tpclean -L and check for "NEEDS CLEANING" -- however, I want
it to clean the drives only when TapeAlert is activated (when the drive
says it needs cleaning)-- is there anything special one needs to do for
this

Quick Q - is TRACKER.EXE running on the
box?
Goto RUN and type MSCONFIG and press
return.
Check the startup tab - if tracker.exe is ticked, untick
it!
What type of files are you backing up? Larger, small single files?
compressed files?

Hi all,
I have a Win2k3SP1 file server cluster member that
will not back up at any reasonable kind of speed – it will sometimes kick
off at about 12MB/s and can drop as low as 3MB/s (avg is about 5MB/s). It
backs up over Gbit Ethernet, and so I would expect to be seeing somewhat faster

From the report you printed, it looks like the only media in yourlibrary is in
either "Netbackup" or "None" pools.
There are scratch tapes available, but they're not in the library.

I could well be wrong, but the SCRATCH pool that you show, appears to "know"
about media, but there does not appear to be any media in the library.
Have you verified there are new or tapes actually available in the robot?
Most appear to be in a FULL state.

Please TURN Tracker.exe OFF !!! that will not help the backups
speed at all !
You will not need to do a restart - just untick it - logoff, log
back on and then stop / restart the NetBackup Client Service on the
client.
Also, ensure no one else is logged onto this box vi
Hmm, seems port 13720 isn't accepting

Hi to all,
I have a mail server in the DMZ, what ports (TCP or UDP) needs to be opened
on the CiscoPix, for the Netbackup to take place.
Thanks Nemanja

It depends on the code level of the netbackup server, the code level of the
netbackup client and the settings you have set on the netbackup server for the
client.
For version 6 there is a ports usage guide.

Ports are at the end but you need to modify NBU itself to let it know you only
want to use these 2 ports (otherwise it will open random ports):
Open Netbackup Java GUI
Go to Host Properties
Go to Master Servers
Double click on the master server
In Master Server Properties
An update on the support ticket...
After submitting logs and various other things requested by support, the
suggested solutions to my problem are:
1. Delete the pempersist file on a regular basis.
2. Disable checkpoints in the backup policy (this seems to be a major
contributor to the problem)

Hi Daniel,
Just be careful as it may say you can't install due to not permissions
on etc/services file because its looking under a different directory.
This is the technote - http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/277412.htm
I had this on 5.1, but it may have been fixed in 6.0

Does anybody know or tried to duplicate NDMP tape image to DSU and then
duplicate a DSU of NDMP copy back to another tape? also, let me know if tried
