Hi all,
How good/bad are LTO-3 drives when it comes to multiplexing? Would we see
great performance degradation if we set MPX to 4 on 1 LTO-3 drive and the
run 4 simulations backups to that drive?
I understand it can depend a lot on our clients as well.
Thanks and regards,

Tim,
Every system I backup has multiple NIC's. So I'll hold at 5.1 MP4 until I hear

I recommend you use the agents. They will do cold backups when the
database is free although they will fail
when the DB is busy. So you need to choose a time when the DB will be
quiet and can be quiesced.
Otherwise you need to do hot backups with logs etc. This is what i
recommend.

Does anyone use multiple NICs who has not had this issue with MP4? I'd
have though multiple NICs are pretty common these days.
How did the alias fix the issue?
Cheers,
Tim

if you want to exclude for instance a directory: /foo/thing/that
then place in a file:

notice the trailing slash.
The file is placed in /usr/openv/netbackup called "exclude_list" but there
are three options:

Interesting. A few years ago, I was in the reverse position. I had
TSM, but could not continue due to (my mainframe) platform. I was the
tech person and saw TSM vastly superior to NBU. Decision makers and
finances (deals were bountiful) meant a switch to NBU.
Now I know NBU well and can mak
Q: What is the format for the Unix/Linux exclude file?
I know the path, I know the names. I just don't know how the file has
to be formatted for NBU to read it correctly (NBU 6 MP3 BTW).
Thanks.

Information on your tape doesn't expire until December 4th, so *NO*, do
not reformat it until then ... the media *may* be OK.
Most tape errors are shown in file
"/usr/openv/netbackup/db/media/errors". Whenever I see a new entry
there (and I have time), I record the event in a journal, includi

You should verify that the media was actually frozen due to a mediaerror.
I've had tapes get frozen because they happen to be in a drive that wentdown to
do a drive connectivity error, etc.Sometimes NBU unfreezes them automatically,
sometimes it doesn't.

I've always taken the route of destroying the media and replacing it with new.
If the data is important that you back up and you are backing it up because
it lives on something that can break down, you should be certain that you

If your media server is multi-homed you may need to look at the vm.conf entry:
ACSSSI Host Name
ACS_SSI_HOSTNAME = host
This configuration entry applies only to NetBackup Enterprise Server
If this entry is specified in vm.conf, you can specify the host where

If you are a tech person and not the decision maker and you had a small demo
of TSM, this is the decision you will make.

i think what you had done is testing from ACSLS side
Maybe you need to check the connection from ACSLS Host to Master server ( ping
test ,, telnet etc )
i have an experience connecting NBU with ACSLS but with L5000 not with SL85000
Maybe you have a firewall between ACSLS Hosts and Master Server
