[Veritas-bu] NetBackup Encryption

2007-01-05 Thread Pondy p
Hello, We are looking to implement NetBackup Encryption in our setup. I would like to know some details from the people whoever using it. What is the performance impact in backup/restore while using NetBackup encryption in 5.1 and 6.0? Is there cost benefits to management? Thanks in advance.

Hi Phil, I would install the new drives and then clone the old tapes using the cloning facility within vaulting. I have found this works well and keeps the catalog updated correctly. Regards, Clem Kruger Telkom SA Ltd ITS Infrastructure Storage Management : +27 (12) 680 3102 : +27

We get between 6MB/sec and 12MB/sec on single streams going to a NB 6.0 MP3 server running Solaris 10 over the LAN. The data gets staged to the SAN and then gets backed up to LTO2 drives. I have noticed a significant increase in backup speed with BroadCOM copper GB adapters by simply upgrading

Hi There, There are a number of issues that may cause the Windows backup to slow down. 1. Make sure you do not have tracker.exe running 2. Ensure that all networks a set to full duplex. Some NIC's cannot be set to 1000 full duplex. Rather set these to 100 full in that case

Good Day Pondy I did not notice any change between netbackup 5 and 6 in performance for the encryption option. The encryption option uses large quantities of cpu on the client. If you have a client with plenty of spare cpu, you should see no difference in the backup speeds. But you will

A important thing to consider is file system fragmentation and number and size of files, which may impactseverely on performance. In order to check this, try to create a single big file (2 GB, for example) and create a test policy to backup only that file. Under normal conditions, on a idle

You may also want to try these things (I found some of these in a forum from a search on Google): 1) On a windows system, check to see if tracker.exe is running. If it is, kill it. This will release some I/O on the filesystems. You can also check to see if it is started up at boot time and
