Really? I haven't used that particular model, but that reminds me of
the OLD Quantum 4x100 libraries (forgot the model number) from years
ago. I'm pretty sure that you can open the CAP on an ADIC (now
Quantum), STK (now Sun) and IBM library without taking the library
offline. (Anyone want to say

Depends on the size of the disk. you may well be best to configure VSP for a
specific volume.
Also found that VSP does slow the backup process down, and in many cases,
still did not capture the open files correctly.
As a rule (from the old 3.4 days) I think you had to calculate at least 10%

The best test I've found is iperf. You've got the backup to the null
device to test the read performance from the file s
Good point. I used to admin an AS/400 way back in the day (V1R3) and I
had to remember to reset the clock at the beginning and end of DST. I'd
hope that by now IBM would have made that automatic.

I'm still waiting to see if we're contacted by an application vendor

for zipfile or jarfile stuff. Haven't looked any further.
Thanks for bringing this up.
It's probably because Java is advertised as being platform independent.
If you had a compile for an OS that didn't do DST (OS400 maybe?) it
would be nice if the Java did. However for most of us it's a bit of a
pain. I wasn't even aware of this Java TZ stuff until we got the notice

I guess I didn't phrase my question very well, as we are testing the
Java update as well. I wrote a little perl script so I could identify
all of the installed JREs on my servers. Any time we do patches or

critical that will br

Surprising they'd have a way to do the update and Sun who wrote Java

I had an issue a few years ago on solaris 8. During the nightly backup
window, the master would lose contact with the library so as long as a
backup didn't need another tape, things would keep running, however,
once another tape was required, then I was in trouble . . . I had to
reboot the master
THE PX series "Media Access" port is pretty sad at best. Its
potentially a work around, but we don't use it here because its

This isn't something I've seen discussed here in recent memory, but it's
something we're working on right now. The new Daylight Saving Time

Seriously, why not use NBU's ability to move tapes in and out of the

Hi!
I've got a problem with NetBackup 5.1, where the master is a Windows Server 2003
system. The client is Solaris 10 Sparc.
On the Solaris client, I installed the Solaris (9?) client software. Now
I added the client to some policy on the Windows server. After that, I selected

Just an update, seems to be a drive issue. I was able to write 160GB image
to another tape drive using the same tape.
I updated the drive firmware, power cycled the server and all the tape
drives on the SCSI channel.
I'll be placing a service call on the drive today.
This is still kinda goofy
Was there any response to the original question here? Im interested in
testing network performance from a client using netbackup.
Cheers

#1 You can't multiplex NDMP backups, so you need multiple tape drives to
run multiple parallel streams.
Also, you need to increment the "maximum jobs per client" in your
master's "global attributes" to a value greater than, or equal to the
number of streams you want to run concurrantly, and finally
