Hi Ram,
did you do /usr/openv/volmgr/bin/sgscan this inbuild scan command from
Veritas scans for tape drives. This should definitely show the drives, else
recheck the connectivity, patches etc. Once done you can use
/usr/openv/volmgr/bin/tpconfig to configure robot & tape drives

Multiple retentions per volume is a global parameter in 5.1 that is only on
the master. It would be nice if it were a media server option, but in 5.1
it is global.
If it were a media server option, then both sides of the aisle would be
happy.

Granted, you are correct and the opposite could also be true. My 5 year backup
could start on the last part of tape number one, fill tape number 2 and part of
number 3. That would be terribly inefficient given that yes, I'm now offsiting
three tapes instead of two. That has to be managed, and
1) How does Veritas license SSO? Is it based on tape drives?
You need to have a SSO license on each server that will be using the
shared storage.
2) Does each master/media server that will be sharing the tape drives
need an individual SSO license, or one single SSO license is needed and

You do realize that the opposite is true, in that by allowing mixed
retentions in this way, you are also allowing as little as a few block
of 5 year retention data to be written to the end of a 400Gig tape full
of 2-3 week retention data.
So that Tape which could go back to scratch after 2 weeks i

Whoa there tiger. Keeping different retentions on different volume
polls is NOT the way to go IMO. If you have 20 GB of data that must be
kept offsite for infinity you are already losing 1 tape "forever," why
not put more data on it? Sure, you could keep that tape in the bot and

Turns out the fix for the hanging backups we were experiencing with the
latest Solaris 10 patch cluster with NBU5.1MP6 were indeed related to
the ip:do_tcp_fusion kernel parameter. Although Sun claims this bug was
fixed in 118833-24, it still exists in 118833-36. The suggestion was to

You can put in an exclude on the server to exclude that folder:
I think its like

There is a technote on Veritas's website that you can either disable the

This is a MAJOR case of RTFM.
Sugar coated advice is nice, but nobody should be running a production
Netbackup environment without reading the application vendor's
documentation on how to actually backup and restore the master server.

Also IIRC, in order to run the (non-JAVA) Windows console, you must have
local admin rights on the PC you're running it on.
Not just to install it, but to actually connect to the master after the
admin consoel is installed.

The Windows admin console is written in Java. It's not a native binary.
It does lag, but you may be able to boost it a bit if you tune your JVM.

Hi,
I am having issues backing up the Public Folders in Exchange 2003 with
Netbackup 5.1 MP3.
When I start the Netbackup GUI it only lists 4 out of many public folders to
be backed up.
Note: I applied document 279774 but still have the same problem.
Any help would be appreciated.

1. Sounds like you have mis-matched tape/storage units. Either use all
LTO2 or all LTO3 for everything, otherwise you need to make sure your
storage units and groups only correspond to the media they back up to.
LTO2->LTO2 LTO3->LTO3 for example.
2. Read the NetBackup manual for System Adminis
