Hi All
Many thanks. The problem is this ... The administrator was logged onto the
Master Server directly, launched the Backup, Archive Restore tool. When he
went to specify netbackup machines / policy type the box did not show the
3rd tab.
Now, as the Administrator, I would have expected to
He was logged into the Master Server. The attempt was to restore a single

2 Accounts can see this tab, one being mine. If someone else logs on with

Thanks a lot for the docs. Very helpful. I will do a test implementation

what do you mean by same rights as myself ?
Windows admin rights? or Netbackup admin rights?
Does the Windows admin GUI use the auth.conf? (I don't use Netbackup on
Windows, so I don't know)
If so, have you configure the proper authorizations?

Simon,
You might want to check to see if you have your domain account configured
properly in the auth.conf file.
See page 506 of the NetBackup 6.0 Administration Guide for Windows vol 1.
Hope that helps.

In this case, its the Master Server that the issue seems to be appearing

Does anyone have any recommendations in regards to VTLs or disk pools,

Good day Dan,
My personal recommendation would be to stay away from any VTL and
rather use the DISK to DISK to tape feature which is part of version 6

I recently spent several months looking at disk technologies. Just
generally speaking here I found that Disk Based Backups (DSU/DSSUs) are
pretty young in Netbackup and there's quite a few issues that have to be
monitored and maintained to make them work correctly. That aside, you

Anyone running PureDisk know if there is an easy way to exclude network drives

This is not definitive by any means, but...

That's a bug in 5.1 MP6. There is a binary available if you open a case with
NetBackup support. Or if you can wait a few months - the fix will be in
5.1MP7.

Steve,
I'm also trying to get VCB backups of my ESX farm working and would love to
have a copy of those docs you were working on, if at all possible.
I'm also looking at ESX Ranger to do something similar. Has anyone compared
the ESX Ranger to the VCB capabilities of VMware?
Thanks!
