My advice would be to migrate to a unix master.

My 2 cents, we have been running both a UNIX and Windows envorinment at
two sites (because of a merger).
In my experience, both OS's perform the same. Both are equally reliable
from what I observe. We recently
converted the UNIX system to Windows, and so far it is running well (we

The problem is you need to setup your barcode rules to tell it what ID*
the tape is and to what volume pool it should be assigned to.

Sorry for late replay. It has run when we have changed the secondary

Not sure how that's my problem.
I am not the only one on an earlier version... But I am enjoying it, and
its a positive step as I could get the NBCC checked out while I am at it

I had to set a barcode rule.
All tapes that start with K go to the scratch pool when I inject them

Hmm I may have misread, but I thought the original post said they
were only having issues I took it that the issues had just started!
But if this is not the case, and its been going on from day 1, then
Justin is quite correct, and you would need to setup a Barcode Rule for
this!
You could also run bpps from the netbackup\bin directory to see what NetBackup
processes are running, and run bpdown to end them gracefully - assuming no
backups are running at the time.

I know I have seem some people mention it and wondered if there was any
doc on the issue.
I have my prod site and my DR site.
Each has its own master.
If I set up an lpar ( for you no aix/unix people that is a virtual aix
server) that has the same name as my prod site master - but is turned
off,
I have certainly used that exact method in 5.1 and included the
class, policies etc etc using rsync and it works a treat.
6.5 am yet to investigate the possibilities, if any.

I don't think my earlier note went through.
Try renaming the Netbackup.dll. The second link states this won't work
as you have to close the process keeping a handle open on the file but
renaming it has always worked for me.

6.5.3 GA has been pulled according to support @ Symantec, I called them
to find out where it was on file connect and they pulled it about an
hour or so after it was released. If you haven't upgraded yet I would

6.5.3 patch containers are posted on the support download website.

This is the preferred way to get it.
It has NOT been pulled.
We went generally available December 2nd.

Doug,
Where are you trying to download the patch containers? If it's not
the Symantec FTP site, it probably wasn't ever there (i.e. the file
connect site where I am occasionally sent to obtain a licensed piece
of software).
Here's the 6.5.3 Downloads available:
Ahh, now I see the confusion. You cannot get 6.5.3 as a base install.
You'll have to install 6.5GA, then apply the 6.5.3 release update.

Symantec rarely remasters the distro. If they're remastered 6.5.3, I
haven't heard about it (not that they'd phone me up and announce it either
:-)). For now, I think
6.5.3 is now released! The patch containers are available now on the
support website referenced. You should only need a subset of the
containers posted and then push an update to all the clients. If you
are not running 6.5, you will need to push 6.5GA and then 6.5.3 to the
clients.

If you've got any reporting software trying to query your Master that
can cause this issue as well (i.e. VBR, Aptare, Bocada, etc).
Shutdown the local service or tell the app to stop monitoring the Master
for the duration of your upgrade.
