Hi Simon,
We run a Samba share on the disk storage on one of our Red Hat Netbackup media
servers, our BESR jobs are configured to write to this location. We then
backup the disk to tape.
One thing I didn’t mention earlier is that BESR only runs on Windows servers,
BMR on the other hand can be
Cheers Brendon for this info!
Its nice to see some differences, but if BESR is going to be used for
StandAlone Networks, then maybe it could find a place in a NetBackup
environment.
Will do some testing :-)
Have you any documentation or any other advice to offer in terms of
BESR? I assume you h
Hi Simon
BESR and BMR work quite differently. BESR creates a complete image of the hard
drive which can be restored via the BESR recovery disk and the server is usable
again. BMR stores server specific information (e.g. registry) on tape but
requires another server with the OS files on it.
Thank you for your input. I wasn't sure about the SAN license requirements,
tho' I am fairly certain that I will have to restore to this new SAN
server and move the data.
The command bpmedia -movedb has the option to move just individual tapes
to a different server.. Not sure if the FORCE_RES
You don't need the tape license since standalone is free. You don't need a
San for a San Mediaserver.
A restore "might" work since its restricted to local backups.
You might be able to duplicate it to another Full Mediaserver and do the
restore from there.

SAN Media Server just means it can only back itself up, as opposed to
backing up other clients. I don't believe there's actually a requirement
that you have SAN though. =)
That said, it wouldn't surprise me if you hit a wall if you tried

Hi Ed,
So on the basis it was included with 6.5, it should do the same or in
fact similar job to BE System Recovery ?
Not had chance to try or even see this in action.
You say it needs to be installed seperately I assume you mean
license key?
Thanks, S.

Guys,
Would this be a good option for backing up a Symantec E-vault
environment ?
We've tried backing up E-vault through a regular backup and it just
shuts down the NBU services as it tries to manage the millions of files
in the vault.
Thanks in advance,

After cancelling that job, however, I am still unable to nuke these images

You need to purchase the advanced client (aka the snapshot client).
Quick question:
Does anyone know where I can download Flash Backup for Netbackup? We have a
directory with over 12 million small files in it and support recommended this
product...
Thanks.
