[Veritas-bu] Status 71 for System State backup

2009-12-03 Thread James Osbourn
We have recently started getting status 71 for just about all of our system state backups for our 2000/2003 servers. As far as we are aware nothing has changed from the netbackup side or the server configuration side. Any suggestions of cause or solution much appreciated. Regards James

[Veritas-bu] what license are required to backup VMs as normal client backups

2009-12-03 Thread mark wragge
Hi, I have purchased Netbackup Starter Pack with 5 standard client license. I would like to backup some Virtual Machines (win2003, winxp and linux). I have 10 VMs in total.   Does each VM have to be licensed if i back it up? Are the client licenses treated the same as physical server backups?

2009-12-03 Thread James Osbourn
If you are backing them up as if there were physical machines then you will need one license for each machine. NetBackup does not license differently for virtual machines. In fact you are better of going this way as the vcb backup method can cost you more in licensing. Regards James mark

James, Check the includes and clients files for the specific policy. When I get error 71 on my unix boxes it is because a directive in the policy includes is invalid for one of the clients. This has happened when I've tweaked the includes file to do a special partial backup of a client and

Hello James, Symantec license each OS channel per ESX host, then 10 Windows VMs on the same physical ESX host would require just one Windows license. the same for any other virtual platforms. Hope this helps. thank you, B On Thu, Dec 3, 2009 at 9:03 AM, James Osbourn j...@sanger.ac.uk wrote:
