Hello
We have started to get status 1 on System State:\ Shadow Copy Components:\
on many of our windows 2008/2003 machines
In the job detailed status we have something like this:
3-12-2009 13:58:34 - Error bpbrm(pid=12544) from client CLIENTNAME: ERR -
failure reading file: System State:\System
We have recently started getting status 71 for just about all of our
system state backups for our 2000/2003 servers.
As far as we are aware nothing has changed from the netbackup side or
the server configuration side.
Any suggestions of cause or solution much appreciated.
Regards
James
Hi,
I have purchased Netbackup Starter Pack with 5 standard client license. I would
like to backup some Virtual Machines (win2003, winxp and linux). I have 10 VMs
in total.
Does each VM have to be licensed if i back it up? Are the client licenses
treated the same as physical server backups?
If you are backing them up as if there were physical machines then you
will need one license for each machine. NetBackup does not license
differently for virtual machines.
In fact you are better of going this way as the vcb backup method can
cost you more in licensing.

We are trying to implement a new backup design for our current Exchange

the LAN and do daily full backups using NetBackup 6.5.4. With a

James,
Check the includes and clients files for the specific policy.
When I get error 71 on my unix boxes it is because a directive in the policy
includes is invalid for one of the clients. This has happened when I've
tweaked the includes file to do a special partial backup of a client and
We already are running with abort on error (WOFB_error 0)
Do you have a link for the etrack as I can't seem to find it on the symantec

Jeff,
Thanks for the information. The particular problem is only for Windows
machine where we have a policy simply to backup the System State.
Most of the machines are standalone servers, with a couple of windows
clusters which we backup via the virtual name.
I am a bit stumped until I can

I found it in this doc - see page 64 - it mentions the etrack.
I don't think etracks are posted in the support site.

We recently went through the same issue. First of all this is not a
NetBackup problem so don't take a lot of heat for it :)
Now the solution. There is a VSS rollup package from MS which fixes this
problem. You can get it from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940349

Hello James,
Symantec license each OS channel per ESX host, then 10 Windows VMs on the
same physical ESX host would require just one Windows license. the same for
any other virtual platforms.
Hope this helps.
thank you,
