System state on Windows 2000 is backed up by using VSP. Can you check the
VSP cache folder on the clients. I've seen NetBackup not cleaning this
folder up causing drives to be full & also cause 71 errors.
Also is it possible for you to send us the backup selection list from the
policy?

I've been using ncftp for just about forever and it's still working fine. I
just checked using ncftp within cygwin on my home desktop.

I'm still getting status 71 for windows 2000 clients, using nbu 6.5.4
Clients - Application/system logs give nothing away , disk space is
fine,
Ntbackup system state backup works
disabling multistreaming doesn't fix the problem
any other suggestions??

To backup exchange while it is online, you do need an Exchange License.
6.5.4 offers extra features, support for newer products / technologies.
