Im running netbackup 7.0.1 on 2003 x64. The server hardware is new, an HP
DL580. Once or twice a week the Netbackup Database Manager service craps out
causing a round of failed backups.
This appears in the windows eventlog.

Good Morning,
Do you have any other app or system event errors at that time?
Is netbackup creating any windows dmp files.
Do you have the netbackup debug logs turned on. If so what do you see in those
logs. In the log bpdbm?

Try adding the following entry to the top of your file selection for those
backups:
SET HIST=N
This will stop the netapps sending history to Netbackup.
Obviously less than ideal, but a good starting point for troubleshooting.
Also, look in your consolidated logs
vxlogview -p NB -o ndmp

May be a problem with the tape drive or the tape drive config or the tape drive
cabling.
What type of tape library do you have?
Can you tell us a little more about the tape drives and how they are connected
to the netapp filer.
Can you issue the netapp commands
. sysconfig -t
.
First of all thank you very much Len for taking your time out to write such
detailed troubleshooting steps.
Now please find some of the answers to your queries:
1. Tape Library - Storagetek L700
2. Tape drives are HP and are fibre connected to the filers
3. I can successfully run sysconfig
