On the filers, make sure ndmpd is on:

What do you have the drives attached to? A NetApp? A Linux box?

Hey all, I am getting some odd errors... I am backing up a whole mess
of NetApp's via 3 way backups through Solaris media servers w/
fiber-attached LTO3 drives. For some reason on three of the netapps I
appear to consistently get 155 (disk is full) errors. The volumes
being backed up aren't any
Not sure how to do it in bpdbjobs, but you can get the timestamp by
looking in /usr/openv/netbackup/db/images/client_name_here/STREAMS.

Hey all, I am looking to run some scripts on the master server when
jobs kick off and/or end. I know about the bpstart/bpend scripts, but
they run on the client-side AFAIK. I also know about
backup_exit_notify, but I also need the start info as well.
Any suggestions?

If the data you are backing up allows for it, I would suggest just PGP encrypting it, and then tarring it up before sending it to tape. There are various open source and closed source options for PGP. I tend towards GPG (
http://www.gnupg.org/) myself...-ShaneOn 7/6/06, Bhangui, Sandeep - BLS CTR
A couple things to keep in mind that can trip you up w/ multiplexing
(and have done so to me in the past):
1) Configuration - The tape drive needs to be set up to multiplex and,
if you really want to get the most bang for the buck, the policy
should be set to multistream as well.
2) Media retenti
Your other option is to just encrypt the data yourself before it hits tape - its what we do at my workplace if we need encrypted backups.-ShaneOn 7/6/06,

There is a NetBackup Encryption Option
Only if you have the Encryption add-on from Veritas. Though it might
work as well if you have a fully featured temp license.

I hate how slow the GUI is, but currently there isn't an easy way to
get some of the information you get in the activity monitor at the
command line (I am often looking at speeds and such). For most
everything else I go through the CLI (or scripts I have written that
use the CLI).

I am running into an odd issue. When I create a new policy I can use
bpplsched and add schedules just fine if the Policy is of type
"Standard," but if it is of type "NDMP," I get a licensing error:
/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/admincmd/bpplsched toaster -add Bi-Weekly -st
FULL -freq 1209600 -mpxmax 1
BTW, here's the tech note about why you get the 191's:

I wager you are running Netbackup 5.1MP4...
We just ran into this at my workplace. This "feature" was introduced in MP4.
Here is what to do:
echo 1 > /usr/openv/netbackup/MAX_STAGING_JOBS
Take a look at this technote (now missing from veritas' site) if you

6.0's Vault has Iron Mountain ftp file generation and upload built in, though I don't know if you want to upgrade. Our company hasn't. We just have a script or two that checks for the contents of the library, takes that and runs it through bpmedialist looking for FULL tapes. It then tosses those
Hey all, I currently have a linux master/media server, with a
scsi-attached robot, housing 10 drives, 4 of which are scsi attached
to the master/media server, 5 of which are fibre attached to netapp
filers. The spare drive is currently fibre attached to a newly built
solaris box (solaris 10).
