In our case all the positon and write errors disappeared after we disabled
the Removable Storage Service on our windows media server.

Yup. Absolutely needs to be disabled. I put a feature request in a
while ago to have the media server installation process warn the user
if it's on and automatically disable it at that point in the
installation process.
